I
have faith that every child, every human carries a
gift, a spot of grace,
that they are meant to bring to the larger community.
I have faith that each of us brings a unique value to
the larger whole.
This is my profession. If I give voice and energy to
this,
every one of the days of my life will count for
something.
If not, every day will be wasted.

What is it that enables certain people to respond
differently to what might flatten the rest of us? Are only a
few remarkable people able to sing while being incarcerated,
create while everything around them is being destroyed, find
wisdom in the midst of depravity? Or are such people bearers
of the possible, living their lives like a flag that reminds
the rest of us what lies within: the possibility of leaping
across the habitual abysses carved in our minds to make
different choices - choosing, in effect, to perceive, think,
and act as fully free human beings?
Not just a special few are born with this capacity; it
resides in each of us. It is activated by choosing to grow
the spot of grace in yourself and others on behalf of
something that enhances freedom and elevates human dignity.
Recent findings in neuroscience teach us that our brains
have the capacity to grow for our entire lives. Thus, after
we grow "up," we can grow forward. Through difficulty you
grow. Through adversity and joy you become more wise and
resilient. It is your nature to grow. It is all that life
asks of you really: grow the seeds you were given, the spot
of grace that is who you truly are.
In a standardized and fragmented world of 6 + billion
people, we all need inspiration to reach across the abyss
that divides us one from the other. In my grandmother's
mystical tradition, it is taught that we are angels to one
another. It is said that we are sent, without our knowledge,
to various places in order to do our destined work and make
love multiply. Thus any person on earth may be called upon
to act as an unwitting angel for another.
In this multidimensional workshop, we will become a
community of such angels to each other. Who says you need
feathers? We will use appreciative inquiry, storytelling,
music, art and movement, to help each other uncover the
forces supporting our growth and encouraging us to share our
gifts on behalf of what really matters. |
